The Varsity boys volleyball travelled to Altona last night to face the Aces in league play. The Zodiacs had a well rounded victory and won 3 sets to 1. Ryan B lead the charge with 10 kills and strong play in the back court. Ryan B once again dominated the opposition with his serving and was a big presence at the net. A great team victory for the boys! Practice has been cancelled for today.
JV Girls Volleyball team faced a tough opponent in their Altona match yesterday, but they worked hard and played with determination to make it an excellent match. After taking the first set 25-21, our girls went on to lose the next 2 sets 25-22. They pushed hard to come back in the 4th set but fell short to an energetic Miller team. Great serving, passing, and on-the-net play made it a fun game with wonderful team spirit! Special shout-outs to Ally for stepping into the power role with huge success, to Indi for her stellar defensive play (including on the net!), and to all of our excellent servers! Well done, Zods!
The JV Girls took on the Grade 9 Girls volleyball team last night. After a strong start with 2 wins in the first 2 sets, the girls lost some steam and the 9s worked their way back to win the 3rd and 4th sets! The JV Girls pushed through and found the energy and determination to take the 5th set 15-11. A solid team effort all around that featured excellent serving runs, much-improved at-the-net play, and great team coverage! Well done, folks!
The JV1 and JV2 Boys Volleyball teams faced each other in league play last night. Plenty of tough serves on both sides of the court were seen, as well as some terrific setting. It was exciting to see the competitiveness on both sides of the court, and to realize the increasing strength of boys volleyball at GVC. In this match up, the JV1’s were the victors, but both teams look forward to further competition. Well done, boys!
The JV2 boys team got their first taste of tournament volleyball over the weekend. The boys played hard throughout the group stage, narrowly missing qualification to the “A” side. The boys battled hard in the consolation pool and learned valuable lessons as the importance of both physical and mental stamina were apparent.
Congratulations to the JV1 Boys volleyball team on winning the bronze at our home tournament this weekend. After a very tight split game with Niverville to secure second in their pool, the Zods moved forward with exciting playoff matches with Calvin Christian and later Steinbach Christian to win 3rd place. It was one week earlier that Steinbach beat us for this position, so it was fitting to return the favour this week!
This past Saturday, the grade 9 girl's volleyball team played 5 thrilling games of volleyball! The team started the day off by defeating NPC, they then lost two close sets to Steinbach (27-26 each set), and were then challenged by the eventual finalists, Green Valley. Going into their final round-robin game with one win, and two losses, the team rallied back to defeat Stonewall which placed the Zodiacs 3rd in their pool. The team proceeded to play a tough play-off game against Rosenort, where they eventually lost in 2 close sets. Overall, the team demonstrated great communication and defensive positioning on the court throughout the tournament!
